As children are categorised as ‘high risk’ King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Food & Hygiene Standards Agency inspect our kitchen and food handling procedures on an unannounced annual basis. The setting has been approved for food preparation which meets the Safer Food, Better Business Programme and in August 2013 we were awarded a Certificate in Recognition of Good Food and Hygiene Standards Level 5 which is the highest level. All staff attend Food Handling & Hygiene training.
Food is bought on a weekly basis and all meals are prepared daily on the premises by our resident cook/s. We operate a snack bar where children can access fresh fruit, fresh water and /or fresh milk which is supplied by the Government free of charge.
As part of our diversity policy we welcome children of all abilities and recognise that each child is individual and has individual needs. If you have a child with any special needs, we will be happy to discuss ways our Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo) will be able to help and advise you. With your permission, we can liaise with outside Agencies such as a Speech or Occupational Therapist, Psychologist etc. and will create an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for your child to ensure progress is made in any area that may need additional help. After initial observation, funding may be available so that the nursery can employ a One to One carer, usually for a maximum of 15 hours per week over a 38 week period.
Our building is all on one level and considerable investment has been made to ensure that all areas are safe, secure and practical with ramps up to doors where necessary to facilitate their use by wheelchairs. The Nursery has experience with children with a range of disabilities and we are committed to a policy of equal opportunities for all children and staff alike.
We ask parent/carer/s to complete all sections of our comprehensive Registration Pack. These forms provide us with invaluable information about your contact details, your child’s dietary requirements, health problems or allergies (if applicable), doctor’s details, immunizations and your child’s general requirements.
We request that you update the Nursery should any of the information provided in the registration pack change and every September we require you to re-affirm information supplied at the time of registration. All records are stored in a locked filing cabinet in the Nursery Office to maintain confidentiality and will not be shared with any third party without prior written consent by the parent/ carer, unless the Nursery Manager believes a child is in imminent danger according to our Safeguarding Policy.
Methwold Nursery tries to ensure that no person is excluded from attending the setting in what ever capacity, regardless of ethnic origin, colour, religion, special educational need, age, sexuality and/or disability.
We are fully covered by insurance as specified by Norfolk County Council, with the exception of loss or damage to any personal articles, including cars belonging to parents / carers or visitors. Our Certificate of Insurance is displayed at all times by the main entrance. The Director and staff members carry additional insurance to cover transportation by car.
